Dr Hamilton initially developed “The Coping & Wellbeing Program” to provide veterinary professionals with the tools needed to confidently handle stress and overwhelm, and increase levels of wellbeing.
Dealing with 'band-aid' solutions or 'tip of the iceberg' situations is extremely unlikely to generate significant, lasting, psychological change. We need to get to the core or root of the problem and deal with these issues (as uncomfortable as they may be for some people) if we want things to change effectively. This concern is not going away and can no longer be hidden under the table with an 'all is well' attitude. The reality is that whether we acknowledge the sad, hurtful, and even traumatic things that have happened in our lives or not, it doesn't change the reality of what happened. The more you avoid dealing with them, the bigger and more powerful they can seem.
As well as seeking individual support with a qualified professional where necessary, what is needed are effective proven and beneficial programs being provided to professionals to assist them in dealing with the everyday demands of their work - a psychological toolbox of resources they can refer to when required. That's why the Coping and Wellbeing Program was developed for both guided intervention and self-help support. Built from evidence-based theory and practice, the program is a unique professional development and psycho-educational intervention. It educates professionals on how to develop protective attitudes, enhance wellbeing, and subsequently increase their coping skills.
Using a range of strategies that are relatively straightforward and easy to implement, the program assists participants in dealing with unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, as well as stress-management strategies, time-management skills, communication and assertiveness skills, relaxation strategies, goal setting, and wellbeing recommendations. Overall, the program provides for a holistic approach to wellbeing by not only focusing on tacking the psychological ill-health considerations, but also offering proactive solutions for those who may not currently be experiencing symptoms of distress, but who desire to maintain their current levels of wellbeing.
Early outcome research on the program's effectiveness has shown a significant decrease in symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and negative effect - all of which are contributing factors to psychological wellbeing. Following participation in the program, participants also indicated they were better able to cope with the demands of their everyday lives once they had learnt the strategies taught, and they felt better about themselves.
So instead of reaching for that wine bottle to try and erase the stress of your day, why not choose a healthier - and more effective - way of looking after yourself? In addition to our face-to-face group workshops, this program may also be delivered at your workplace (contact us to find out more).
Please contact us if you are interested in attending one of our face-to-face workshops, or would like to discuss the possibility of Dr Hamilton presenting a workshop at your workplace.
Due to the current issues and restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this program (with bonus topics) is now available online!
